Farmington Station Senior Living Awarded Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ Accreditation

Farmington Station, an assisted living and memory support community managed by Senior Living Residences, has earned the Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ accreditation.

Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ standards assess an organization’s ability to provide collaborative care in a safe, functional, and respectful environment to help ensure not only the quality of care but the quality of life. Accredited communities have demonstrated adherence to 60 standards of care and extensive training practices for the care of individuals living with dementia, and have embraced and implemented a person-centered plan for all residents. Read our article entitled More than Memory Care to find out more.

Raising the Purple Flag

The community held a flag-raising ceremony on April 14, 2023, to commemorate the achievement. In attendance were State Representatives Mike Demicco and  Francis Cooley, and Christopher Carter, President of Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) as well as the community’s staff, dozens of residents, family members, and local eldercare professionals.

“We’re proud to have Farmington Station fly the Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ at their community,” said Carter. “Today we get to recognize a senior living provider for not only aspiring to, but also achieving best in class and excellence in the area of memory care. We hope that this award continues to raise awareness of the Purple Flag initiative.”

“I want to give my congratulations to the whole Farmington Station community because it wasn’t one person or two people, obviously, it is a whole community that worked hard to achieve the standard that is recognized by Purple Flag,” said Representative Demicco at the ceremony.

“It’s a great honor to be here to see the great work that is being done with dementia care. It is something that most families deal with in one way or another,” said Representative Cooley.

Representative Demicco read from an official citation. “From the State of Connecticut General Assembly, an official citation, introduced by Representative Mike Demicco. Representative Francis Cooley, Senator Derek Slap, and Senator Rick Lopes. The Connecticut General Assembly hereby offers its sincerest congratulations to Farmington Station Assisted Living in recognition of receiving the Purple Flag Accreditation for Excellence in Memory Care. Your entire community of residents, caregivers, staff, and administration can be justifiably proud of this rare and outstanding achievement. The entire membership extends its very best wishes on this memorable occasion and expresses the hope for continued success.”

“We are very proud of this accreditation. It falls in line with our Right Values here at Farmington Station. It is something that we do every day, day in and day out, so it’s very validating for our associates to know that they are amongst the best of the best,” said Lindsay Miller, Executive Director of Farmington Station. “Purple Flag provides confidence for our families and prospective residents and families that they are choosing the right community for their loved ones with dementia. They know that we have met the highest standard of care and it creates a culture of excellence, and it creates a loyal and cohesive team. I’m incredibly proud of our associates.”

Farmington Station is the 7th organization to receive a Purple Flag accreditation, following their sister community Ridgefield Station in Ridgefield CT, which received its Purple Flag accreditation the day prior.
