An Important Voice in Dementia Care: Dr. Danielle N. Ramsden Endorses Purple Flag

Dr. Danielle N. Ramsden, an experienced and well-respected senior living physician and industry authority, has publicly endorsed the Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care™ accreditation program, praising its role in promoting high standards and continuous improvement in dementia services.

Dr. Ramsden views the Purple Flag as a meaningful symbol of quality and reassurance for families. Her support is rooted in years of hands-on care, advocacy for dignified aging, and a career shaped by both clinical expertise and compassion for individuals living with dementia.

Established in 2019 through a collaboration between the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE) and the Connecticut assisted Living Association (CALA), Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care™ is an accreditation program developed to recognize excellence and drive continuous improvement in the quality of services provided by those who care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Upon approval, providers receive the distinctive purple flag as a symbol that communicates their commitment to leadership in the field of memory care.

“I first became aware of the Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care accreditation years ago via my work at The Greens at Greenwich,” she said. “It was one of the first assisted living facilities in Connecticut to participate in the program, and having never heard of Purple Flag before that, I was naturally curious. As a physician whose patients are all assisted living residents, I find this accreditation to be an extra layer of reassurance to families that their chosen assisted living community has a genuine commitment to the dementia care of their loved ones.”

Dr. Ramsden has been providing thoughtful and consistent care to residents of assisted living communities since 2015. She understands the unique challenges associated with accessing medical services in these settings and has spent years working to alleviate that burden for both patients and their families. Her commitment to patient-centered care is evident in her ongoing advocacy for their needs and well-being. She also specializes in home health care, regularly visiting her patients at their homes.

She is committed to providing care that aligns with the goals and values of her patients and their families and believe strongly that everyone deserves a “soft landing” in their later years. One of the most meaningful aspects of her work is assisting patients in experiencing a peaceful, dignified transition at home, in close partnership with hospice care teams.

Dr. Ramsden earned her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences from Howard University in 2004. She went on to receive her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2008, she began her Internal Medicine residency at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut, where she eventually served as Chief Resident. She later completed a Rheumatology Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, further expanding her clinical expertise.
